Report: Traffic & Child Labor

Hello everyone, we have finally finished the second video from Vijayanagar Colony about traffic and child labor. It is posted here:
We are in the beginning phase of our final video projects at both schools. At Vijayanagar Colony, the students are doing a video on the environment and specifically on air pollution. They will be documenting details on air pollution and how it affects their lives as well as working to combat this problem through a seed-planting effort wherein they will ask members in the community to donate funds for seeds to plant around the area. We are excited to see the kids engage in this kind of civic actvity. At Nalgonda, the boys have chosen to focus on a historical topic for their final video – the Indian Independence of 1947. They will conduct interviews with elders in the community and re-enact some key moments in the Indian path to Independence (very much looking forward to this acted part of the video :)

    Dear GHS newsreporters and crew,
I am left speechless after watching this video. You have tackled such sensitive pertinent topics fully and with so much enthusiasm and intelligence. You should be very proud of this outcome of your work.
By adding the sports and film reviews in between your stories you give a light heartedness to parts of the documentary – which is very clever ( it also tells me about your interests) – but that certainly does not take away from the seriousness of your concerns regarding child labor and traffic related problems.
Your filming and audio-visual effects have matured as time has passed and I can see that Mona and Dave have given you the tools and guidance to produce such a marvelous piece- so kudos to them too.
Looking forward to the final digital story! Keep on working hard and continue making a difference for your school, home and city.
    Punam

first of all these children are SO well educated about causes and effects of pollution in india. your female reporters also seem so spunky and full of life. Its amazing that you got a chance to speak to child laborers and even more amazing that they were interviewed by other children and not adults. Their responses were so honest and sometimes funny which is even more heartbreaking and thought provoking. The interview with the c.r.y rep was very insightful and i hope people see the the issues are not as black and white as they think. thank you so much for this. ill be back!

    Punam,

Thank you so much for your continued encouragement and support through our term with The Modern Story. All of your messages have been lifting and motivating not only for Dave and I, but for the students, who are the real drivers of these projects. You must be very proud of Piya and Remy’s work starting a program like this.

I don’t know your email address, so hopefully this message will find you sometime. Wishing you the best!

It’s great to see the dedication to solving problems that you have. It’s an inspiration to us in America, we should definitely work on this same kind of effort her.
